How to measure body temperature

Temperature is one of the important parameters of a multi-parameter monitor. Three temperature monitoring facilities are available in the monitor. Useful in diagnostic tool and especially true when differential temperatures need to monitor.

Body temperature of premature baby and temperature of the incubator.

Core temperature (Oral and Oesophageal) and temperature of the periphery (Skin).

The temperature difference between oral and rectal readings (for e.g., in suspected appendicitis)

How to measure body temperature

Although the temperature is an extremely easy parameter to monitor, for a realistic interpretation of data, it is important to bear in mind the influence of such factors as:normal temperature for baby

Part of the body, where the temperature monitoring. (Extremities are always at a lower temperature than core temperature.)

Body temperature changes throughout the day.

Menstrual cycle. A rise of about 03°C takes place during ovulation.

The three zones most commonly used for measuring temperature are:

  1. Rectal (typically 37°C)
  2. Oral (typically 37°C)
  3. Axillary (underarm) (typically 36°C)

Preference to the most accurate measurement for rectal. being least subject to patient movement. Axillary region most useful

check for the appropriate temperature probe for the monitor

Tape-on skin probe.
