Sistrunk’s procedure in Pediatric

Sistrunk’s procedure the removal of thyroglossal duct or cyst or sinus. The removal of entire track from thyroid to all the way up to the tongue
Open track which connects between tongue and thyroid gland. Use the fine adson forceps for holding the tissue of track and follow up.
when tongue protrudes in and out cysts moves up and down
Most commonly in congenital to avoid further complication to baby
Supra & infra hyoid cyst is common

Sistrunk’s procedure Surgical Position

Neck extended
Transverse chin incision over cyst away from the hyoid bone
Subcutaneous dissection through platysma by scissors or cautery
Deep cervical fascia cut in the midline to expose the cyst.
After exposing clean and close the wound by absorbable sutures and followed by the Dermabond.
Removal of the central portion of hyoid bone ensures complete removal of a tract.

#15 size scalpel blade with 3 size Bard Parker handle

Adson tissue holding forceps

Mcindoe scissors

Probe with dilator for dissecting the cyst

Bipolar cautery for controlling bleed and dissection

Catspaw retractor and skin retractor like

Single hook and double hook

Monocryl absorbable suture for closure of skin.
