Senior Operation theatre technician
Report to duty ahead of time to ensure timely start of cases.
Assist Senior Technical Assistant in administrative work and carry out all his functions in his absence.
Responsible for general administration and supervision of OT Technicians, OT Assistants and other junior staff with regard to their regularity, punctuality, leave, delegation of work, sorting out problems at the workplace apart from providing guidance in performance of various procedures.
Ensure that the equipment and articles of daily use are stored safely and are in working order and drugs are available and issued in adequate quantity in each area.
Ensure that all emergency outfits are in functioning state at all times.
Carry out pre-operative check of all anaesthetic drugs and Anaesthesia workstations and their peripherals, OT table, patient monitors and all other essential equipment.
Check equipment, notify faults to the supervisor in charge and take corrective measures (i.e. repairs by company certified engineers, rechecking of repaired equipment in the presence of company’s engineers to ensure minimum down time and to maximize efficiency).
Learn about every OT / lCU and endoscopic equipment at his workplace and do minor repairing or change of any defective part and ensure that all the equipment is stored safely after use at designated places.
What are the duties and responsibility of Senior Operation theatre technician?
Responsible for maintenance of log book, showing details of individual ICU/anesthetic equipment serial numbers, year of purchase, list of accessories and price of equipment etc. along with details of repair work carried out, annual maintenance contract, with bill numbers/ receipts and amount spent etc.
lndent all anesthetic drugs and equipment from store and issue to different OTs/ICUs as per requirement.
Maintain utilization/item usage register of all anaesthetics/expensive/controlled drugs, inhalation agents, epidural sets, tracheostomy sets, double lumen endobronchial tubes, Oxygen flow meters, suction units, CVP lines, CVP manometers, transducers, pressure monitoring lines etc. Ensure entry of patient records in case of narcotic/scheduled drugs under signature of Head of Department/ Controlling Authority.
Arrange/ supervise operation of high speed sterilizers and autoclaving units for both surgical items and anesthetic equipment in the ICU or OT by OT Technicians and OT Assistants.
Ensure regular, washing, cleaning, sterilization, day to day maintenance and proper storage, as required, of anaesthesia work stations with all their attachments, OT tables, electro-cautery, OT lights, sterilizers, autoclaves, ENT and Ophthalmic microscopes, suction machines, monitors, defibrillators, pulse oximeters, ventilators, airways, tubes, circuits, lines, anaesthesia instruments, infusion pumps, patient warmers etc., all components and accessories of endoscopes used by
Anaesthesiologists and all other specialties except surgical specialties and peripherals like monitors, light sources, insufflators etc. of all endoscopes/laparoscopes.
Maintainence of Operation theatre
Maintain difficult airways set/ kit and ensure its presence in OT at all times.
Arrange/supervise cleaning and sterilization of OTs and lCUs and ensure proper washing and disinfection of OTs and ICU to ensure asepsis.
Train OT Technicians and OT Assistants with respect to various OT & ICU procedures and functioning and maintenance of manifold room, medical gas pipeline and vacuum system units etc.
Periodically apprise the Head of Department/Controlling Authority of any development or problems and take remedial measures under information.
Maintain stores/stock and maintain all prescribed registers including maintenance contract records and keep them up to date and assist the Head of Department/Controlling Authority in procurement of departmental requirements and in correspondence regarding maintenance, repair and upkeep of equipment
Responsibility of senior OT technician
Responsible for all aspects of maintenance and use of electronic/sophisticated equipment in ICU, when posted there.
Look after all aspects of maintenance, use and other work of all monitors, wall units, electronic and other equipment in ICU / CCU when posted there.
Maintain good communication with other OT staff and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Senior OT Technician perform rotational duties of OT Technician as assigned by Head of Department/ Controlling Authority.
Perform duties of Senior Technical Assistant as and when directed by Head of Department / Controlling Authority.
Assist in measures directed towards management of mass casualties and disasters.
Assist and perform tasks as directed by Head of Department/ Controlling Authority.
Follow and ensure that others follow appropriate universal precautions and hospital waste disposal rules and regulations.
Utilize HlS and other software as needed/ instructed.
Maintain cleanliness of person and dress.
Educate and direct junior staff.
Any other work as assigned by the Competent Authority.
