2%  Glutaraldehyde solution is s liquid chemical sterilant used in high-level disinfection. Used in sterilizing and disinfecting the reusable medical device which has contact with internal body structures or mucous membranes.

Example: Laryngoscope, Endoscope, Camera, Light source, Fogarty catheter, fine surgical instrument, scissor, etc.

Activation of CIDEX Glutaraldehyde solution

Some manufacturers provide activated Glutaraldehyde solution and available without activation. Need to activate using powder provided with the solution to mix with the solvent.

How to use 2% Glutaraldehyde solution

After activation of the solution, keep it in a clean designated container with a lid.

Clean the instrument in running water after use. Remove all the debris and blood clots and dry properly.

Immerse in the 2% Glutaraldehyde activated solution.

Immersion time 

Disinfection: 10-15 minutes

Sterilization: 8-10 hours

After the mentioned time for the targetted process of sterilization/disinfection

Remove from the Immersion Tray and rinse it with sterile water and ready for use.

Expiration: The manufacturer provides the lifespan of the solution. Minimum use available from 7 days to 28 days.

After the change in the colour of the solution within the expiration period, discard it.

The Life span of the Solution differs from the manufacturer.

On the tray of the solution container. A list of the information should be mentioned on the lid of the container.

Precaution

Keep it in an air-free area and closed with lid.

Always keep it closed with a lid.

Irritant to the eye, better not to use in the ophthalmic surgical instrument.

Irritant to eye, skin, and mucous.

Wash the instrument properly after immersion in sterile water.

Avoid touching with bare hands, use rubber gloves before use.
